Activity books for seniors

Activity books can be an important source of enjoyment to older people. They're available in a variety of formats.

Coloring books. Coloring books aren't just for kids. They're also available with designs and pictures intended for adults who often find coloring to be relaxing and creative. Crayons can be used, but adults usually prefer colored pencils because pencils offer greater precision and the ability to blend colors smoothly. Check out some of the coloring books available on Amazon.

Puzzle books. Studies have shown that solving puzzles releases dopamine, the neurotransmitter that regulates mood. Puzzle solving can also relieve stress and improve short-term memory. You can find books with crossword puzzles, word search, sudoku, trivia games, and more. Amazon offers a wide assortment of puzzle books. If you're shopping for someone who enjoys TV game shows, there are activity books available based on shows like Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Family Feud, and others.

Additional things to consider when shopping for activity books:

  • Spiral-bound books could be an advantage in situations where you want the books to lay flat.

  • Activity books are available in large print for those who need it.

  • Some are available for people with dementia.
